About Eyelid Surgery
A person's eyes are a beautiful component of the face that deserves to be shown, but sometimes an excess of skin above or under the eyes can create an aging facial appearance. Atlanta, GA plastic surgeon Dr. Fara Movagharnia offers eyelid surgery (known as blepharoplasty) to remove excess skin and lift the lower or upper eyelid, creating a softer look. So many men and women undergo eyelid surgery at the Center for Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery to reduce puffy bulges, leading to improved functionality and facial appearance. Upper and lower eyelid surgery creates a fresh, youthful appearance and can produce subtle yet noticeable improvements.
Ideal Candidates
Eyelid surgery is a facial cosmetic enhancement that is sought out by both women, as well as men. During your private consultation, treatment options will be discussed with Dr. Movagharnia based on your symptoms that need to be corrected. In most cases, ideal candidates are frustrated with excess, hanging skin and folds above their eyes or bulging skin just under the bottom eyelid. These irregularities can cause vision impairment that can get in the way of daily activities. For a more awake appearance, blepharoplasty may be the appropriate procedure for you. If you have loose skin that droops on the upper eyelid or bags and circles under the eyes, blepharoplasty can correct this to provide you with a younger appearance.

Surgical Technique
Prior to eyelid surgery, general anesthesia will be given. This procedure may be done on the top eyelid by itself, on the bottom eyelid, or a blend of both upper and lower during the same surgery.
- Upper
Upper eyelid surgery assists in diminishing the hanging of skin that impairs vision and creates a more appealing eyelid appearance. The incision point is often placed along the lash line or crease to trim away tissue and fat. - Lower
Lower eyelid surgery is performed to improve puffy skin under the lower lid. In most cases, an incision is placed just under the lash line to surgically remove fatty tissue, and the skin is delicately lifted to produce a smoother look.
What to Expect
Blepharoplasty can take up to three hours based on whether both upper and lower eyelids are treated. After the procedure, you should expect a few days to rest and avoid strenuous activities. Ice packs can assist in reducing bruising and swelling. The outcomes from blepharoplasty may last a decade or longer and although the results are long lasting, remember aging does not stop.
